AI as a Thinking Partner
The best AI use case isn't writing. It's thinking.
Hiring signal: What changes when you use this: you use AI as a thinking partner for decisions — which means you make fewer decisions you regret and spot blind spots you'd have missed alone.
What you will learn
- Use AI for structured pro/con analysis
- Stress-test assumptions with targeted prompts
- Use AI to identify blind spots in your thinking
- Build a decision journal workflow with AI
The Problem
Most people use AI to produce things — emails, reports, summaries. But AI's most valuable use might be helping you think. Not by giving you answers, but by asking you questions, challenging your assumptions, and surfacing what you're missing.
This is a different mode of prompting. Instead of "write me X," it's "help me think through Y."
Structured Pro/Con
The simplest thinking-partner prompt:
I'm considering [specific decision]. Help me think through this.
First, list the strongest 3 arguments FOR this decision. Then, list the strongest 3 arguments AGAINST. For each argument, rate its strength (1-5) and explain why. Then identify the one assumption that, if wrong, would change everything. Finally, ask me 3 questions that would help you give me better advice.
The last line is key — it turns the AI from an answer-giver into a conversation partner. You answer the questions, and the AI gives you more targeted advice based on your responses.
