The Problem

When you ask AI to build something, it often jumps straight to writing code. This feels fast — you get output immediately. But it's a trap. If the AI's understanding of what you want is even slightly off, it builds the wrong thing — and fixing a wrong build takes longer than planning first would have.

The "plan first, then build" habit is the single most important workflow for building with AI.

The Habit

Before any build, ask the AI to plan:

I want to build [detailed description]. Before you start building, give me a plan:
What you'll build (list the components/sections/features)
The approach you'll take (what tools/frameworks/structure)
Any questions you have about my requirements
Anything you think I should consider that I haven't mentioned
Don't start building yet. Just give me the plan.

The AI will respond with a plan. You review it. If it's right, you say "go ahead and build it." If it's wrong, you correct the plan before any code is written.
