Phase 4: Audio & Music Generation · 45 min · Python · Stable Audio Open · ElevenLabs API

Sound Design & SFX Generation

Foley, ambient sound, SFX — the audio layer that makes generated video feel real.

Real-world application: SFX generation and integration with video pipelines is a practical skill that demonstrates you can build complete multi-modal pipelines, not just individual modality generators.

What you will learn

Generate SFX with Stable Audio Open (11-47 second SFX generation)
Generate foley and ambient sound for video
Understand when to use generated SFX vs sound effect libraries
Integrate SFX generation into video generation pipelines

Objective

Generate listening samples and evaluate them for structure, fidelity, editability, and intended use. In the paired studio lab, build a pipeline that takes a generated video, analyzes its content, generates appropriate SFX (ambient + foley), and mixes the SFX with the video's audio track. Use FFmpeg for audio mixing and synchronization.

The Problem

A team generates a video of a rainstorm with Sora. The video looks realistic, but it's completely silent. They add background music, but the video still feels flat — there's no sound of rain hitting the ground, no thunder, no wind. The missing piece is SFX: sound effects that match the visual content. Without SFX, even high-quality AI video feels unnatural.

SFX generation and integration with video pipelines is a practical skill that demonstrates you can build complete multi-modal pipelines.

What you'll build
Generate SFX with Stable Audio Open and ElevenLabs SFX API. Create foley and ambient sound for video. Integrate SFX generation into a video generation pipeline so that generated videos come with matching audio.
